WCSSA Autumn: 7/8 Boys Volleyball Review

After a solid 7 week training program, the two 7/8 boys volleyball teams (after much deliberation creatively named Team A and Team B) were more than ready to hit the court at the WCSSA Winter Tournament. Our two teams were competing against a total pool of 8 teams. Unfortunately Team B failed to make the semi-finals, although they are to be commended for their excellent effort and sportsmanship throughout the day. The A team however, topped their pool and made it through to the semi-finals. A close semi-final against Melton Christian College resulted in a Covenant win, giving the A-team a place in the grand-final against Creek Street Christian College.

Although we had previously lost to Creek Street, Covenant entered the match in great form. With the boys from Team B supporting from the sidelines, Covenant managed to get away to an early lead, thanks to great on court communication and the use of our secret weapon ‘the warrior special.’ By half time the margin was 10 points in Covenant’s favour and the team looked to be well in control of the game. To their credit the boys maintained their focus and continued to work together as a unit-they maintained the lead and eventually took the game by 9 points.

Well done to the boys from both teams who showed great dedication our weekly training sessions. Although we had to split the guys into two teams they always trained well as a single unit and supported each other on the day – the victory can rightfully be enjoyed by both teams. A special pat on the back to the A-team, who pulled together in some tight games to come away our 2009 WCSSA 7/8 Boys Volley Ball Champions. It was great to see how ecstatic the guys from both teams (and the coach!) were when we took hold of the much sought after trophy.
