Covenant College

2008 Sportsperson of the Year

The ‘Sportsperson of the Year’ was awarded for the first time in Covenant College history earlier in the term, with Philip Vale being crowned the inaugural winner. The award seeks to recognise the student who best represents the school in Sport over the course of the year, displaying participation, effort, sacrifice and excellence across a broad range of events spanning from Term 1 through to Term 4.  The name of each Sportsperson of the Year will be included on an honour board to be hung on the walls of the new Multi Purpose Centre (MPC) facility.

After going over all results and statistics from 2008 sporting events, Joshua Varcoe, Philip Vale and Hamish Lawrence were the Final Three who remained from a final nominee list of seven students, selected from a pool of over 150 possible students from Years 7-12.  After much deliberation and careful analysis of each of these three finalists, it was deemed that Philip Vale just edged out his peers Hamish and Josh in a tight contest. It was thought that Phil’s standard in not just individual but also team events got him over the line. A huge effort though from Hamish and Josh as well as the other seven nominees and those claiming honourable phil-valementions.
