CSSN

cssn-logo-ii1The CSSN (Christian Schools Sports Network) is a branch of the CSA (Christian Schools Australia) organisation, which was formed last year. The CSSN aims to:

·         Foster Christian thought, practice and administration in relation to sports and sporting events within and between Christian schools.

·         Develop and promote appropriate policies, rules and guidelines, based on Christian principles, for the conduct of interschool sporting events with both Christian and other schools.

·         Provide a pathway for students to participate in sporting competitions at a State or National level.

Over 25 schools from around the Melbourne & Geelong  area compete in the CSSN, all finding the newly formed competition highly professional and of a standard seeking excellence from student competitors. With venues including Olympic Park (Athletics) and the Mebourne Sport and Aquatic Centre (Swimming), it’s clear that the CSSN strives for providing idealistic sporting events for students to compete in.

In 2008, Covenant College were impressive in their first year in the CSSN, claiming 3rd Place Overall in the mid-sized schools Division at the Athletics held at Olympic Park, and producing several CSSN Cross Country Champions (1st Place finishes: Pashaiy Ayiik (U21), Hamish Lawrence (U13)). Unfortunately due to the Year 9 Program occasionally coinciding with these competitions, a complete Covenant College team was rarely fielded. However, in 2009, the Covenant Warriors will have complete team lists as the the Year 9 Coordinator and Sport Coordinator have planned for no cross over between the Sport and Year 9 Programs.

It looks like a promising year of CSSN competition is in store for the Covenant Warriors.  The first CSSN event is the CSSN Swimming Championships, to be held on Thursday, March 26th. Three students (Cassie Brown, Hamish Lawrence and Ainsley Guidolin) have submitted their intentions to compete at the National Christian Schools Swimming Championships, held in Perth in May. Being selected for this prestigious event comes down to their performances at the CSSN Swimming Championships.
