Covenant Warriors Soccer teams compete at GISSA 2009

IMG_1783The Year 9/10 soccer team finished 5th at the GISSA Soccer tournament finishing with 3 losses and one draw. The results were as follows:

  • 0 – 3 loss to Kardinia International  College
  • 0 -2 loss to St Ignatius
  • 0 – 2 loss to Christian College
  • 1 – 1 draw to Grovedale Secondary College

This tournament represented the first opportunity for this team to work together and it was the ideal preparation for us as we look to participate in the WCSSA tournament on Wednesday.

The improvement in each game was clear and by the end of the 4th game we were just starting to hit our stride with several scoring opportunities resulting in our only goal by Dave Baird. The other positive aspects were that two of our students were selected to represent Geelong next Wednesday against the Ballarat schools. Captain Stef Luong and Josh De Hoog played consistent and excellent soccer in attaining their selection [Josh Varcoe narrowly missed out on selection]. Josh De Hoog was also awarded the Best Covenant Player medallion.

The most pleasing aspect was that all the boys really put in and never gave up at any point and persisted well. The boys lifted for each game and were good at taking the losses and learning from them – a character trait that pleases any coach. The boys were courageous, persistent, enthusiastic and represented Covenant well.
